Recently, a breathtaking residence by architect Marcia Kogan has been finished in the Brazilian city of Salvador that lies about 1700 away from the Rio de Janeiro coastline. The house was designed to fit in the surrounding nature what is obvious by its shape and used materials. Linear walls are barely visible whilst transversal walls are made from stone that cools the air in the interior. A massive sloping-roof is supported by a number of wooden pillars. An interesting fact is that the ceiling get a wooden texture that looks more like a flooring. Structured wooden panels provide needed privacy and filter the sunlight. The most of the house are public areas that are connected with the exterior, but one can find a number of strictly private zone – bedrooms, bathrooms. Elements like stone walls, big spaces well alight, wooden vertical facade are typical for this architect that puts the comfort of owners and living environment at the first place. Commissioned by St. Frederikslund Holding, Bjarke Ingels Group Architects built this exceptional 8 House on the outer edge of the Copenhagen, Denmark. In a bowtie-shape, the 8 House serves as a 61,000 sqm mixed-use building housing three different types of residential housing and 10,000 sqm of retail and offices. The 8 House creates two intimate interior courtyards, separated by the center of the cross which houses 500 sqm of communal facilities available for all residents. With spectacular views towards the Copenhagen Canal, 8 House provides residences to people in all of life’s stages through its 476 housing units, including apartments, penthouses, townhouses, as well as office spaces for business and trade. Spring House was built upon a proposal to divide the house into two volumes. The first is a solid house covered with a coating of lime, and windows “muxarabi” that filter light and allow constant ventilation. The second volume is built on metal plates and a pre fabricated wooden structure. The location of the house is defined by two principles: the need for proximity to the water for the boat and preserve the dense jungle vegetation. The site is located on the Saco do Mamanguá (RJ), a fjord accessible only by boat without a motor. This Spring House was designed to house a boat of a young couple from Sao Paulo during the weekend.
